5 Things We’re Loving Right Now
Published August 10, 2010
The middle of August is quickly approaching, which inevitably means the end of summer is quickly fading. Retailers are switching to their fall merchandise, everyone is beginning to talk about Apple Harvest, and students are gearing up to return to school. Our philosophy – before we say goodbye to summer 2010, let’s make the most out of the time we have left! 🙂
Here are 5 simple summer pleasures that we are loving right now in August. Be sure to put these on a to-do list while you’re in the area and don’t say goodbye to summer just yet!
1) Hersheypark Lemonade
Seriously, we don’t think there is better lemonade out there. This fresh-squeezed beverage is summer in a cup! It is the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness (it won’t make your mouth pucker). Catch a day at Hersheypark’s Boardwalk and be sure to grab a lemonade (or three) while you’re there. For directions to Hershey from Gettysburg click here.
The Gettysburg Recreation Park at Long Lane And Franklin Street offers free Sunday evening concerts at their Park Amphitheater. The concerts are free and musical acts vary. There are two shows left: Sun, Aug 15 at 7pm and Sun, Aug 22 at 7pm. The August 15th show will feature music from Voxology, a very popular band in the area. Be sure to bring your blanket and lawn chair!
3) Adams County Peaches
Adams County, located in the Fruit Belt of Pennsylvania, is know as Apple Country. However, along with apples, Adams County is the number one producer of peaches in Pennsylvania! Read about the 22 different peach varieties here from the Historic Round Barn and Farm Market.
According to Kyle Knouse, president of the Adams County Fruit Growers Association (ACFGA), “The Fruit Belt also has a unique microclimate created by the surrounding mountains that protects the fertile ground and forces many hailstorms to pass over the area. The climate is also favorable for growing a wide variety of fruit. Cold winters allow for dormancy; hot summers make a good peach; and cool falls permit large, quality apples to be grown.”
So go ahead and sink your teeth into a juicy Adams County peach! You won’t be disappointed and don’t forget to pick up more Adams County produce at the downtown Gettysburg Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings!
4. Roof-Top Pool at the Gettysburg Hotel
Spend the end of summer relaxing and unwinding at the Historic Gettysburg Hotel’s roof top pool! What could be more refreshing after a day of walking around Gettysburg in the heat?
5. Majestic Movie Memories
The Majestic Theater offers classic movie showings on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM throughout the summer. They are $6.00 each and an excellent way to spend a nice summer evening. If you haven’t caught any so far, there are still 3 showings left this summer! Buy your tickets here.
August 11 – Flying Dueces
August 18 – The Quiet Man
August 25 – Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Enjoy the end of August!
