Apples, Apples, Apples!

So we hear through the grapevine (well, through Facebook) that Hollabaugh Bros. Inc. started picking Honeycrisp apples this week! How exciting! It is no secret that this time of year is a bustling one for Adams County – Apple Country USA. This excitement culminates in the National Apple Harvest Festival held at the South Mountain Fairgrounds (near Arendtsville, PA) during the first two weekends in October. More about this Festival in another post!
Adams County produces over 20 varieties of apples each year. Hollabaugh Bros. has a wonderful chart that shows the varieties with a picture and their description. Now back to the honeycrisp… this variety is “explosively crisp, super juicy, sweet-tart.” Sounds perfect!
The Gettysburg Hotel offers complimentary apples from Hollabaugh Bros. for all of our guests checking in and checking out. We also suggest stopping by one of the fruit farms in the area using the Gettysburg Wine and Fruit Trail map! Either way, if you’re in Gettysburg don’t go home without trying an Adams County Apple.
