First Friday- Gettysburg Style

Published September 29, 2010

It’s hard to believe it, but we launched this blog almost 2 months ago! Our very first post was a little bit about First Friday in Gettysburg. Don’t remember? Check it out here. First Friday is a great time to be in downtown Gettysburg! The town comes alive with entertainment and a lot of special things to enjoy for the evening. October’s First Friday is this Friday, October 1st.

Here are some of the fun activities going on…

4th Annual Salsa on the Square:

This special event by Project Gettysburg/ León is in honor of Hispanic Heritage Day. Carlisle St. will be closed and transformed into a salsa dance floor! Come out for live salsa music, great food from local restaurants, such as the Blue Parrot Bistro and Ragged Edge Coffeehouse,  and an Hispanic Heritage Day proclamation by Mayor Troxell. Nicaraguan coffee and gifts will be for sale. Festivities begin at 6:00 with salsa dancing at 7:00. Read more about this event on flipsidepa.com.

Tipton’s Grill Inaugural First Friday Concert Event:

Tipton’s Grill will be hosting a live acoustic concert to benefit the SPCA of Adams County from 6-10pm. Restaurant owner Kyle Tipton Leinbach hopes for this to become a monthly feature with a variety of area charities on the receiving end. “I’m excited to open the restaurant’s doors to offer a Friday night concert by singer/guitarist Paul Moschette, a performer on the Atlantic City entertainment scene for more than 20 years,” said Leinbach. Tipton’s Grill is normally open for breakfast and lunch, but will offer evening hours and fun events during First Fridays. The grill’s hearty sub/sandwich menu will be offered and %15 of sales will go back into the community, “my home town,” says Leinbach. Visit them on  Facebook.

Bluebrick Gallery Pumpkin Carving:

Bluebrick is known for their fun First Friday activities!

Bluebrick Gallery, home to seven member artists, has become known for their fun and unique First Friday activities, which have included artist trading card swaps and artist demos. For this First Friday, the artists will put their artistic creativity to work during a pumpkin-carving event! Visit the gallery at 18 N. Washington St. from 6-9pm. They will be serving fresh, local hot cider and other refreshments! Be sure to bring a pumpkin and favorite carving tools. Pumpkins from Hollabaugh Bros. will also be available for sale that evening.  I’m excited to see the beautiful pumpkins lining the sidewalk at the end of the evening! Gallery director, Lisa Harman hopes the pumpkin carving event will become a Bluebrick tradition. Visit them on Facebook and be sure to stop by on Friday.

The Spirited Ladies Spa Treatments and “Tie on With Sydney”:

Dreamsacks scarves at the Spirited Ladies Shoppe

The Spirited Ladies Gift Shoppe at 45 Chambersburg St. will be giving luxurious hand spa treatments using Crabtree and Evelyn products. (I’ve tried the lotion they will be using and it is wonderful!) Sydney Green will be running a demonstration called “Tie on With Sydney” showing you many ways to tie a scarf! She will be using different kinds of scarves, but a particularly interesting variety is the Dreamsacks scarves. They are made from bamboo and are so soft and lovely. Visit the Spirited Ladies on Facebook for more information here.

McClellan’s Tavern October Cocktails and Drink Special:

McClellan’s Tavern will be offering a Carmel Apple Martini (vodka, buttershots and apple cider drizzled with carmel)  special for First Friday! After carving pumpkins, getting pampered, and walking around downtown, relax with a cocktail in our cozy English Tavern.

Be sure to look for the First Friday flags at participating businesses! See you all on Friday.
