Gettysburg Public Transportation

Published September 13, 2010

In my post about The Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival (which was a wonderful event this past weekend!) I mentioned the Freedom Transit service from the event to downtown and other attractions. This service isn’t only available for special events! Anybody can enjoy Gettysburg without the hassle of driving!

A little bit about Freedom Transit:

Freedom Transit provides public transportation on fixed routes which serve the Gettysburg area. Freedom Transit is a division of Adams County Transit Authority (ACTA), which has provided paratransit service throughout Adams County for over 28 years. ACTA  provides 56,000 trips per year for the residents of Adams County.

The great part is, the transfer center is conveniently located by the Gettysburg Hotel and the downtown parking garage on Carlisle St. (see below.)

Here are the routes you can take with Freedom Transit:(click the name for a map)

Lincoln Line 1: The Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg – Enjoy a relaxing day of shopping at the Outlets!

Lincoln Line 2: Gettysburg NMP Visitor’s Center/Eisenhower Complex – Visit Boyds Bear Country!

Blue Line: Herr’s Ridge/Downtown

Gray Line: Gateway Gettysburg/Downtown – Make a run to Walmart or go see a movie!

Fares are extremely reasonable. It is only $1 per ride or $3 to ride all day! (Exact change is needed when boarding.) They also offer a 10 ride pass for $9 and a Monthly pass for $30. Passes can be purchased online ahead of time.

Once your car is parked, leave it there! Make the hassle of driving and parking one less thing to worry about during your Gettysburg Getaway!
