First Friday Gettysburg Style- November

Published November 4, 2010

It’s that wonderful time again- First Friday in downtown Gettysburg is tomorrow, November 5th. Take a look at what was going on last month, by checking out my previous post.

If you are unfamiliar with First Friday, it is a wing of the Gettysburg Area Retail Merchants Association, also known as GARMA. Area stores and restaurants are encouraged to extend their business hours, offer special sales and promotions, and host special events or hospitality in their establishments the 1st Friday of every month.

Just a little bit about GARMA: They are a non profit organization that has been in place for over 50 years to help serve their business members which include retailers, restaurants, attractions, accommodations and others. To learn more about GARMA visit their website and be sure to “like” them on Facebook!

If you haven’t experienced downtown Gettysburg on  First Friday, I highly recommend. There are many things going on and there’s something for everyone! Here are some of my suggestions to put on your list:

Wentz Stained Glass Studio located on York St.  is offering a discount on their “Walk-in” fused glass workshop. This is such a great opportunity to make your very own one-of-a-kind glass souvenir. No experience is necessary and the class takes about 30 minutes. Relax and be creative! You can even create a glass ornament to gives as a gift. Be sure to leave yourself extra time to look around the studio at the gorgeous glass creations!  Classes are normally $19 but on First Friday the price is only $15. Read more about the walk-in workshop here.

Glass art -the creative possiblities are endless!

The American Civil War Museum Complex

Do good and save at the same time! The American Civil War Museum invites you to bring a non-perishable food item and receive free admission to the Wax Museum! They are located at:
297 Steinwehr Avenue
Gettysburg, PA 17325

Visit their website here.

By the way, GARMA will have a prize table set up there inside the Gettysburg Gift Center as well as in front of the Gettysburg Hotel. This month’s prize is  a basket from Island Dog featuring a 160z. Mia Bella Candle, Votive in a holder, Mia Bella Plug in and a $15 gift certificate from Island Dog (valued at $60.00). In order to win, print out the coupon here, have it initialed by three participating retailers and take it to the prize table!

Stop by the Adams County Winery Retail Store on Chambersburg St. Sample Adams County Winery’s  new releases for only a $1-  “Yankee Blue” (their 100% blueberry wine and “Mulled Peach Wine”. Visit Adams County Winery’s website here.

Also on Chambersburg St., the Gettysburg Day Spa is offering a free travel size hair spray from BLOW New York with the purchase of 2 BLOW New York products. Includes Shampoo, Conditioner, or any styling products. Good Housekeeping Magazine recently recommended a Blow product! Learn more about the Gettysburg Day Spa here and take a look at their services!

Pages of the Past Bookstore located on York St. is offering15% off their exclusive Northern Lights Candles and holders. They are very nice, quality candles. I also here a rumor there may be brownies available to shoppers! If you’re not familiar with Pages of the Past, here is a previous blog post about them.

Foxxy Moxxy Boutique is always a fun stop, but especially tomorrow! Stop by and say hello to the ladies and enjoy a Turkey Martini! (if you didn’t have too much at Adams County Winery beforehand, of course! 🙂 ) I’m not exactly sure what a Turkey martini is, but I hear it involves cranberries and vodka. Stop by and see for yourself! According to Foxxy Moxxy co-owner and artist, Bobbi Becker, “if you drink 3-4 of them you act like a turkey!” Check out my post about the Foxxy Moxxy Boutique. You just may want to get some early Christmas shopping done too.

After shopping, sipping and dining downtown finish off the night at the Majestic Theater! The Gettysburg College Department of Theatre Arts and the Sunderman Conservatory of Music present Lerner & Lowe’s “My Fair Lady,” one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The show begins at 8pm and tickets are $20, $15, $10 ($5 discount for students)  (fees & taxes included) Purchase your tickets online here.

As always, be sure to look for the First Friday flag hanging at participating retailers’ stores!
