Gingerbread House Celebration
Published November 12, 2010
This time of year always seems to go so fast! The leaves change colors, then before you know it the holiday season is here. I don’t mind, of course, since the holiday season is one of the best times of the year, especially in Gettysburg.
One activity you won’t want to miss is a “Gingerbread Celebration” on December 3rd and 4th presented by the Gettysburg Festival. The proceeds of this unique event, held at the Gettysburg Hotel, will benefit the festival.
Friday Hours are 5-8 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm.
Area chefs and artisans will be creating one-of-a-kind gingerbread houses that participants can bid on to own.
Friday night’s events include a kickoff holiday party; The $10 cover includes complimentary champagne, hors d’oeuvres and the first opportunity to view the gingerbread houses and place bids. (Can’t you just smell all that wonderful gingerbread now?!)
Saturday’s activities (bring the whole family along!) include free admission, entertainment and a children’s gingerbread house workshop. The workshop is $15 and early registration is suggested.
All visitors are invited to vote for their favorite gingerbread creation. The People’s Choice Award for Best of Show is a cash prize of $250 sponsored by The Christmas Haus. Second Place is a cash prize of $100 sponsored by Judie and John Butterfield.
A “call for entries” is now underway. To create and donate a gingerbread house, fill out this entry form here. If you want to enter you must do so right away since entries are due on the 15th!
Make sure you get your tickets by purchasing them online now.
Stay tuned to the blog for more information in the coming days and weeks about things to do during the holiday season in Gettysburg! One extremely popular event benefiting the United Way of Adams County called “Breakfast with Santa” will be held on December 11th. More on that in a coming post…
