Ferris Wheels and Fireworks: The Gettysburg Fireman’s Carnival is Here!
Published June 27, 2013
Ah, Summer
Trips to Mr. G’s for some hand-dipped ice cream, lightning bugs dotting the night sky, baseball, and steamed crabs.
But don’t forget carnivals! They’re a bit of a tradition here in central Pennsylvania, popping up for a few days’ of midway games, entertainment and food — and they’re always a great way to enjoy a summer evening with friends and family.
The Gettysburg Firemans’ Carnival is now underway at the Gettysburg Recreation Park through this Saturday, June 29. The Dining Hall opens daily at 5:00 pm offering homestyle sandwiches, soups and dessert.
Did I mention that the hall is air-conditioned?
All the attractions open at 6:00 pm — and you won’t have to worry about purchasing tickets individually at each ride. Instead, the Carnival rides are “Pay One Price and Ride All Night”, so get out there and have some fun! If rides aren’t your thing, there’s a midway set up with games, too.
This annual Fireman’s Festival is a big fundraiser and the Firefighters Food Stand will be selling lots of carnival fare – hotdogs, hamburgers, fresh-cut fries, and more. If you show up Thursday through Saturday, you’ll find pit beef available, too.
Don’t miss the fireworks display Friday night! They start at 11pm.
I made it out to the carnival just before the doors opened the other day and snapped a few photos of the attractions and site layout to whet your appetites a bit. Enjoy!
