The Road to Appomattox: Final Week at the Majestic Theater

Published July 16, 2013

This is the final week that you can see Richard Hellesen’s The Road From Appomattox at the Majestic Theatre right here in downtown Gettysburg. Hellesen’s dramatic imagining of the meeting with Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant the day following Lee’s Appomattox explores the psychology and characters of two generals standing on opposite sides of the Civil War, trying to piece a fractured nation back together.

Co-produced by the Totem Pole Playhouse, this is the first production of The Road to Appomattox outside of Washington, D.C and was originally commissioned by the Ford’s Theatre Society. The one act drama runs approximately one hour and is directed by Ray Ficca, starring Steven Carpenter as General Grant and John Dow as General Lee. Audiences will be treated to a question and answer session following the performance.

There are two showings per day at the Majestic — 2pm and 7:30pm — and you can order your tickets directly here. Don’t miss this — the final show is this Sunday.
